As I begin this blog, realize exactly how powerful this is. Every time I have written a blog with my annual goals, THEY COME TRUE!!! So I have to be careful for what I wish for right now, because apparently, whatever I put into the universe comes true. You know, the same will happen for you too, you just have to be clear about what you want.
My goals have to be SMART. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Bound.
Okay, so here’s my first goal: In 2013 I am moving to Tampa. My timeline for this is November. I have already managed to have enough success as a virtual trainer that I have been able to quit working at a gym and go full-time self employed. Now I’m ready to move to warm weather where I can wear shorts and skirts every single day, spend time with my friends and not have to pay so much money in taxes! I will be able to walk my dog every day while feeling the sun kiss my skin and I will be able to overlook the pool in my backyard when I wake up every morning.
My second goal is to increase my business. I will not go into specifics here, but my goal is to help more people achieve their fitness goals, spread the word of clean eating, and help more folks realize that being healthy isn’t just about spending countless hours doing cardio and being hungry. I will contribute to the world by helping more people become fit with workout DVD’s, at-home Crossfit programs, more personalized nutrition programs, etc.
My third goal is to compete in six Crossfit competitions in the RX division in 2013. I’ve been working with the competitor’s class at my Crossfit gym since right after the Garage Games in November. I’m increasing my weights on an almost daily basis. I am learning to do things with less assistance like unassisted kipping pullups and only doing double unders, never going back to singles. I’m making things harder for myself, so that when I just have to do the basics, they are easy. I have already done one, but I have some other competitions already on my radar as well as the Crossfit open in March. Throwing yourself into competitions is the best way to get better at Crossfit, according to my coach. It helps you recognize your weaknesses so you can practice and make yourself better.
When I compete in the Crossfit Garage Games in Southie next fall (one year from my first competition) I will compete in the RX division, and I will place in the top 30. To get there I will decrease my mile time from 7:52 to under 7:30. (As of 1/9/13 this has been revised.
On January 9th I ran a mile in 7:21, now my goal is to run a “WOD-mile” in under 7:00.) I will increase all of my major lifts by 33%:
Squat 225# (from 170#)
Deadlift 300# (from 225#)
Clean and jerk 155# (from 117#)
Snatch 115# (from 85#)
My final goal is a really personal one. Over the last couple of years since I started The Get In Shape Girl I have lost touch with friends. When I was younger (and had more free time) I used to drive to Long Island and Boston from North Carolina to hangout with friends. When I was in college I went out five nights a week. After college in Tampa was pretty much the same. Before I moved in with my man I used to spend so many nights on the phone with girlfriends. It is in my nature to be social and I have lost touch with too many people. In 2013 I vow to spend at minimum one day a week connecting with a friend. It may be a phone date, or it may be dinner, but at least one day a week must be spent doing something social, other than working out!
And of course, I will maintain my bonus goal of doing unassisted hand stand push ups one of these days!
