When you understand HOW to eat, you will have more success staying on your clean eating meal plan and here’s why..

I want you to think of your absolute favorite thing to cook. Something you’ve been perfecting for years. Maybe it’s your chili.. or lasagna.. or pie. It’s something you have probably tweaked and played with for years, right? Well, how did you start?

You started with a recipe or a base. You could have left it at that, but you knew you wanted something more.. something that could make it better.

Following a meal plan that I, or another coach, gives you is like following a recipe. You always need to pull it out of the drawer to follow it word for word. But along the way, you learned how to make the dish. If it’s chili, you learned to start with your tomato paste as your base, add in your meats, and spices and simmer on low for 6 hours. You barely need the recipe anymore because you LEARNED.

When you understand nutrition, you can make great decisions without pulling out your clean eating meal plan.

To better explain this I want to tell you about two clients. I will call them Sue and Barb. They both hired me during the last round of #Commit2Fit and they both got custom clean eating meal plans from me.

Sue followed it well for about 2-3 weeks but got tired of only following my examples and started getting sick of the same things over and over. She didn’t understand why she couldn’t just follow her clean eating meal plan, she got frustrated at herself and has been struggling ever since.

Barb started the first week with a few of the examples I gave on the plan, but we talked about all of the great sources of protein and what protein does in the body. We had the same conversation around carbs and fat too. So on mornings where she didn’t have time to make scrambled eggs with spinach in a wrap, she was able to blend a protein smoothie with some almond butter and berries. On nights she went to dinner with her husband she knew in order to get the macronutrients she needed she could order a tuna poke bowl with brown rice, riced cauliflower and avocado.

Barb had success because she learned.

The other great thing that comes alongside learning how to eat is you begin to experience freedom. You understand what food is made of and how it helps you.

Just to give you a brief overview of part of what I teach in #Commit2Fit so you can see how it could help you, I’ll dive in a bit..

At the base of it, we have vitamins and minerals. These are our micronutrients. They are responsible for all of our cellular functions. They keep blood pumping, cell repair from oxidation, immune function, energy to muscle fibers, etc. These are vital to our existence and we need a wide array of them and the best source is food (not supplements.)

These make up our macronutrients- carbs, protein and fat. There are certain amounts of these everyone needs, but we can manipulate how much of each we get to help us lose fat or build muscle. 

Finally, our macronutrients make up our calories. A calorie is a unit of measurement of energy. We use it for life functions such as breathing, thinking, walking, talking and exercising. Excessive energy stored is body fat. 

I teach my clients in #Commit2Fit where we get these nutrients and what they do for us. When you understand HOW to get them it’s easier to find them and when you know what they do for you, it makes you want them.

What a great way to never lose motivation, right?! This really helps you have a better relationship with food because you are staying on your meal plan with ease, not stumbling around and feeling guilty. And even when you do choose the less nutritious stuff, you do it consciously, enjoy it, and move along.
