Lisa has been an amazinggggg client.  Having had another client in Ray, ND I know they don’t have really any personal fitness centers at their disposal so I was pleased to be able to help her get into shape when she signed up.  I knew we were going to make gains, but I was taken aback by her commitment.  The day I told her to sign up for the half when she expressed interest, she emailed me back within hours letting me know she was committed.  Little did I know exactly what would come of that race…

I was unhappy with my body and had been working out some but just didn’t know if I was doing the right exercises or following the right workout plans for me.  I was running some and working out with some dvd’s.  One day I was looking around on Facebook and saw a friend had liked something on the Kyra Williams Fitness page.

I started to read through the page and talked a little with her and decided I was just going to do it; I was going to sign up for online personal fitness training for a few months and see how it went.

The progress pictures were excruciating to take.  I hated how my body looked and was embarrassed for myself and for my husband that had to take the pictures for me.  But I started following the daily workout plan that Kyra gave to me.  I loved the variety of the workouts and felt they were really tough!

A little while into it I decided that I also wanted to have a goal, something to work towards, a marker, so I told Kyra I wanted to sign up for a ½ and would need a workout schedule.  She said she would do that but I had to send in some progress pictures!  I was not excited to do this again but I did (otherwise I wouldn’t get my workout! Ha) and low and behold my body had changed!!!  So that spurred me on even more.

I noticed with doing the strength workouts my runs felt a little easier.  (I had attempted to run before but my legs always felt so heavy and tired so this was a very pleasant surprise!)  So I continued to strength train and run.

A little over halfway into my running schedule I figured out I couldn’t actually run the ½ in Bismarck as planned and was very upset.  I had trained so hard for this and now it wasn’t going to happen.  After a few tears and a lot of woe is me attitude, I then decided I was going to keep up with my plan and still run, but instead I would run around my hometown.  13.1 is still 13.1 no matter where you run it!

My experience with the half marathon, was just plain awesome!!!  First of all I was worried about a lot of things before the run.  I playfully put a status on my Facebook page about “come one come all to the 1st Annual Ray 1/2 Marathon” as a joke, but then friends and some others expressed interest to run “with” me.

That put me into a tizzy since I know I’m not a fast runner and I have only trained alone, so thoughts going through my mind are “what if they want to visit, what if my breathing is loud, what if they run faster and I end up changing my pace, etc.”  I was really stressing out for some reason over this.   But the night before I just decided to forget about it all and just run, no matter who showed up to run with me or not.

So morning of the half marathon I got up, drank some water and coffee, had my peanut butter on toast and banana and then waited for the time to get there.  I jokingly made myself a bib and posted it on Facebook and sure enough when my friend Kathy showed up at my house she had a race bib on as well.

We got to the spot to start right around 7:30 am.  It was chilly, probably around 40 degrees, but hardly any wind and the sun was shining.. it was beautiful out.  We started running and a little ways up I noticed some vehicles parked and people started getting out, it was my friends with signs and music blaring cheering us on!!!  And when we started I did notice pink and black balloons hanging on road signs and we both thought there was probably a garage sale somewhere, but as we kept running they were along the whole route, they were for me!!!!

Kathy stayed with me for almost 3 miles and then went and sat with the girls and cheered me on.  Around mile 7-ish another friend showed up and ran with me about 5 miles, but she left at mile 12 so I could run the last mile by myself.  They had music playing, Gatorade, Gu’s, Jolly Ranchers, signs, they had a police car drive by with its sirens and lights that gave me a shout out and at the end had a streamer for me to run through and had my husband show up with the fire truck baring its siren for my finish.  It was absolutely wonderful, I couldn’t have asked for a better weather day or a better experience!

Then afterwards we all had a beer standing there on the road and then a few of us girls went and had a couple more.  We were just so on a high and didn’t want it to end yet!

One of my friends asked how I felt about missing out on the race in Bismarck; I said I didn’t feel I missed out on anything!  And what’s better is they made it all about me, who wouldn’t love that?! ha!!!

I still continue to get the daily workout plan from Kyra and have since changed my goal..  My family and I are going to Jamaica in November!!
