This is the time of year when things begin to rapidly change.
We are moving quickly into spring in North America and with the change of season we begin to flourish and come to life. It’s the season of birth, renewal and energy. Flowers bloom, animals are having babies and the rain flows. It’s a time of cleansing and renewing.
Here are a few spring time changes that will support your health. These are small tweaks I’d recommend to help your body keep up with the changes so you can look and feel your best during this season.
Eat with the season.
When we eat fresh seasonal produce not only are we supporting the environment, we are supporting our bodies. This time of the year we have sugar snap peas, carrots, radishes, leaks, beets and citrus in season. These foods contain vitamins and minerals that support our immune system. When our immune system is feeling strong and functioning well, it will be less likely to be over active during allergy season which means you’ll be less symptomatic! You can consult experts on wellness like this wellness clinic in Garden City, NY to know more about eating healthy.
Get outside.
Being outside in nature has been shown to reduce stress levels and improve mood. This can have a positive impact on both physical and mental health. Plus, spending time outside in the spring can increase your exposure to sunlight, helping to boost your vitamin D levels.
If you can exercise outdoors nowadays even better! Maybe this means a walk or jog, but you could bike, skate or just do your bodyweight movements outdoors.
Try this little circuit:
30-25-20-15-10-5 reps of each movement:
No push up burpees
Standing banded knee raises
Alternating forward lunges
Lateral band walk
Tricep dips
Give your space a good cleaning.
Getting rid of dust can certainly help you breathe better and have less allergy symptoms. Having a tidy home can also help you have less stress, and less stress means more motivation.
For example, if you have a tidy kitchen with nice, clean cooking tools you’re probably going to be more likely to meal prep right? And if your bedroom has a stack of clothes waiting to be put away you’re going to be less likely feeling good going to bed, and that will impact your sleep. Then you’re less likely to want to workout the next morning. All of these things tie in!
Stay hydrated.
This will support your immune system, but being outside can mean you’re warmer and need more water to rehydrate.
This will also help any skin issues that may come up with weather changes like acne and eczema. It keeps fluid moving in our lymphatic system. Perhaps even consider using electrolytes like these. They help me feel more energized too!
