I found Kyra Williams Fitness on Facebook and started to follow the page. I liked that Kyra would give little snippets of workouts or free workout plans to try. It really sparked my curiosity because I was needing a break from the workouts I had currently been doing and circuit training seemed like a great time saver and well…..just different. I have to admit, I was very skeptical at first. Not of the workout plans themselves, from what I had seen they were very well put together, but of signing up for on-line training in general. In fact, Kyra ended up striking a deal with me to help alleviate my anxieties about signing up.
My goals with doing this were to gain some muscle and just over come my boredom from following the same workout routines day in and day out. I also didn’t want to have to write my own workout plans. It really takes the guess work out when someone else is providing you with your workouts for the week. Easy peasy… just show up and put the time in without having to wonder if you did enough or too much.
Physically I achieved exactly what I set out to do, gain muscle. That definitely came from the workouts, but also from the help that I received with my diet. Mentally, it felt like a huge weight off of my back to not have to write my own workout routines. I used to really stress over that.
Emotionally, I’ve gotten a lot stronger. I know now that I can make gains. It takes me a lot longer, (because of my build) and that’s ok but if I put the work in and make sure I’m eating enough the muscle will come. I’ve also learned a lot about what works for my body. Everyone is different and responds differently to strength training and just feeling like I have a handle on what I’m doing feels amazing!!! I’m definitely at the point that if I found myself at the gym without my workout in tow I could give myself a great workout without the anxiety of wondering if what I’m doing will be effective.
I had to overcome my body image issues. I’ve never been over weight per say, and in fact was often under weight and too thin. I guess I was what people now call skinny fat. I had lifted for years, and had gotten some good results, but never what I was really looking for. I now know that my lack of direction and my not eating enough where holding me back. I was also comparing myself to other women that where built completely different then myself. It’s one thing to admire another woman’s physique, but another to beat myself up over not looking like a 5’4″ muscular figure competitor when I’m 5’10” and have a very lanky build. Now, I’m lifting to be the best version of me, which has ignited a new passion for strength training.
I also took part in Kyra’s Lean Body Workout Program. Wow, what a great experience… The workout routines are tough but were a nice change from the circuit style workouts I had been doing. I loved seeing myself become stronger and had even started performing exercises that I had previously strayed away from (ie: front squat) Being a part of the Facebook group for this workout was awesome!! The support and the motivation were priceless!
Other than the physical changes that take place I’d have to say that the discipline I gained from this program is invaluable. For me personally another benefit was again, learning what works for me. I have issues with my lower back and at times it can get tweaky. Normally I’d push through and end up hurting or even pulling it. I can now confidently substitute exercises or change things around and know that I’m still getting a great workout.
All of the workout routines from Kyra Williams Fitness are great because they can be done at the gym, or at home. If done at home you don’t need a ton of equipment. I also love that Kyra offers different packages. If you are super disciplined and just want the workouts, you can do that. Or if you feel like you need the extra push and support, that’s available too. I really had a great experience working with Kyra. She’s quick to get back to you when there are questions. And believe me, I put her through the ringer =)
I’ve been working with Kyra for just over a year. When I started it was really about the physical changes for me, which I am thrilled with. But I had never suspected that I’d make so many break throughs mentally and emotionally. I just feel like I have a healthier perspective on my health and fitness. It’s been a wonderful journey!!
