If you’ve been hearing me talk about Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis and wondering what it actually is, who it’s for, and why it matters—this post is for you.

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis, often shortened to HTMA, is a non-invasive test that looks at mineral levels and mineral ratios stored in the hair. Unlike blood work, which shows what’s happening in the body in a very short window of time, HTMA reflects longer-term patterns of mineral status, stress, and metabolic function.

Because minerals play a foundational role in metabolism, energy production, hormone balance, and recovery, understanding these patterns can provide valuable insight into why fat loss may feel stalled or why your body isn’t responding the way you expect.

How HTMA Works

HTMA requires a small hair sample, typically taken from the back of the head close to the scalp. That sample is analyzed for macro-minerals like calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium, as well as trace minerals such as zinc, copper, iron, and selenium.

The real value of HTMA isn’t just the individual mineral levels—it’s the relationships between them. These mineral ratios offer insight into how your body is adapting to stress, how your metabolism is functioning, and which systems may need support.

What HTMA Can Tell Us

HTMA helps identify patterns related to stress response, adrenal function, thyroid activity, blood sugar regulation, inflammation, and recovery capacity. It can also highlight mineral imbalances that may interfere with fat loss, energy levels, muscle building, and hormone balance.

For many women, labs come back “normal,” yet they still feel exhausted, inflamed, or stuck. HTMA often explains why—by revealing patterns that traditional testing doesn’t capture.

Who HTMA Is For

HTMA is especially helpful for women who feel like they’ve tried everything and still aren’t seeing results. It’s for those who are busy, stressed, training consistently, and eating well but feel stalled. It’s also valuable for women dealing with low energy, stubborn fat loss, poor recovery, cravings, or a history of chronic dieting.

This test is not about finding something wrong with you. It’s about understanding how your body has adapted over time and what it needs now to move forward.

Why Testing Beats Guessing

Without testing, many women rely on trial and error—changing calories, workouts, supplements, or macros without truly knowing what their body needs. This often leads to more frustration, fatigue, and stalled progress.

HTMA allows us to be more strategic. Instead of guessing, we can support minerals, stress load, nutrition, and training in a way that aligns with your unique physiology. This often leads to faster progress, better energy, and more sustainable fat loss because the body is being supported rather than forced.

How HTMA Fits Into My Coaching

HTMA is a tool I use to help women address metabolism at the root. It guides decisions around nutrition, supplementation, training intensity, recovery, and stress support so we’re working with your body instead of against it.

While HTMA isn’t required for everyone, it can be incredibly helpful for women who feel stuck and want clarity instead of more guesswork.

If you’re curious whether HTMA is right for you or want to learn how it could support your goals, this is something we can explore together inside my coaching programs.
