Scapular Retraction Pull ups
Hold onto a pull up bar overhand with your core engaged (squeeze your butt and your abs, and toes pointed slightly out in front of you) then try to pull your shoulder blades down. Your body will raise slightly, then lower back down to inactivated.
Retracting your scaps when hanging from a pull up bar is the initial movement in a pull up and will set you back up to prepare for the movement. Scapular Retraction Pullups are part of Kyra Williams’ Personal Fitness Program and workout routines as they also take the arms out of the pullups and allow your back to do more of the work.
