I love setting goals for the upcoming year.  Something about getting a fresh start sparks so much energy within me.  Looking back to see what has been accomplished over the past year really does something for my confidence – it’s pretty cool to see all I have done.  Not just in fitness, but in the trips I’ve taken, friends I’ve made, experiences I’ve had, people I’ve helped through online training, projects I’ve completed…

In 2013 I set four major goals.

Number one – move to Tampa.  Ughhhhhh.. I am still NOT there yet.  This is very frustrating to me.  There are days where I just feel completely trapped because I haven’t done what it takes to get there (i.e. save money – I am so bad at that!)  But one day, as I was walking Stringer through a foot of snow, almost slipping on ice 327327 times, and couldn’t feel my fingers or feet (thank you Raynaud’s) it occurred to me why I’m still stuck in wretched Boston… the universe is teaching me a lesson.  When I lived in Tampa previously I didn’t appreciate it.  I took the warm weather, the beach, the palm trees, the people, the sunshine, basically everything in my life, for granted.  The universe is teaching me through these really crappy days of no sunshine, ice, snow, rain, cold weather, that when I do move, to not take that stuff for granted anymore.  Thank you universe for that lesson.  Anyhow, I know, 2014 is my year.  A miracle happened and I grew up and got my financial stuff in check, my business is growing and I ACTUALLY HAVE SAVINGS!!!!! I’ve even started exploring different investment options, including Bitcoin investing UK, to help my money grow even further.

My second goal of 2013 has been to grow my online training business.  Oh, that has happened.  This isn’t the time or place to go into specifics, but I imagine if you have been following me, you are aware.  I have this new, awesome site that has helped me connect with so many more people.  At this time last year my old site was continuously being hacked, then I joined Marie Forleo’s B-School and learned so much about what I need in a site, how to set up a newsletter (if you aren’t on it, you should be and you can do it HERE), how to really connect with the customers I want to and need to help.  I love what I do – I have a lot of passion for fitness, nutrition and helping people achieve their goals, and I don’t think being the next Chalene Johnson is out of the question for The Get In Shape Girl.  So in 2014, I will continue to grow this business.

My third goal of 2013 was to compete in six Crossfit competitions in the RX division.  Check.
I also thought it was possible to increase my lifts by 33%,  I had nooooooooo idea how aggressive that was.  I was able to increase most of them by 15% so in 2014, my goal is to increase them by 15% again.  Here are the specifics:

I increased my squat from 170 to 195. Now I want to squat 225#.
I increased my deadlift from 225 to 250 and now I want to pull 300#.
I increased my bench press from 105 to 130 and now I want to bench 155#.
I increased my clean and jerk from   117 to 140 and now I want to lift 165#.
I increased my snatch from 83 to 95, now I want to snatch 110#.
I decreased my 500m row from 2:01 to 1:53.1 and now I want to do it in 1:45.
Handstand push ups on parallets.
My mile probably went up to be honest, I need to work on that in 2014.
I can butterfly now, but still no muscle up, which I am working on along with unassisted bar muscle ups for 2014.
I also want to be able to bang out 10 overhand grip dead hang pull-ups on call. I did 8 the other day fresh, so I want 10 anytime, day or night.

As you can see, I have a plan because looking at these numbers, I want to cry a little.  But I break them down to small, manageable chunks, which I chose to go by quarter.  The thing is with goals, they have to be SMART.  Otherwise they are just vague and probably not going to be accomplished.  You have to have a plan.

My fourth goal for 2013 was to spend one day a week connecting with a friend.  I never really took notes here, eeeek.  I probably had some really good weeks and some really bad ones.  All in all, I think I did a good job with this though.  In 2013 I….

Went to Hawaii with two girlfriends from high school
Ran the Disney Princess Half Marathon with 7 other girls
Went to Aruba for a week with my boyfriend and made a pretty cool friend there who opened my eyes to some things
Went to West Palm for a weekend to get away after a loss of a really good friend – you never know how quickly people can vanish from your life – enjoy life and enjoy your friends while you can
Ran the Peachtree Roadrace in the rain (well, after everyone else was done) with my aunt and learned that weather is just weather
Spent a wonderful weekend with friends I’ve never stayed with before in Tampa
Spontaneously got a hotel in Newport with friends and had Sunday Funday
For the first time didn’t have a birthday party but instead competed at a four person Crossfit competition
Spent a weekend at the beach in Florida with 20 of my friends
Went out for Halloween for the first time in years with one of my best friends, dressed as Hulk Hogan and Hacksaw Jim Duggan and ran into the real John Cena!
I reconnected with one of my best friends in the world from college
Went to my first LSU game and explored New Orleans with my boyfriend and some other friends
Went to the Olympia in Las Vegas with my best friend and Vitacost.com
Had two of my best girlfriends up to visit Boston
Went to NYC a few times to spend time with girlfriends down there
Made some close friends who “get it” (the whole desire to be healthy but also have fun) at Crossfit Southie
Turned working out into a social event by going at the same time as my friends and competing with friends

Overall I am satisfied with my goal of being social.  2013 was pretty freaking awesome.  I don’t know how I will be able to top it, but something tells me I will

I also set some mini-goals along the way, like one I had over the summer was to run a 5k in under 20 minutes.  This never happened.  I don’t really love running.  When I want to do it, I do it. But to feel like I HAVE to.. well I just won’t.  This is normal and it’s totally fine.  There are goals that we want with our heart and goals we want with our brain.  That was something I wanted with my brain and it’s something you should consider when writing out your goals.

So my goals for 2014 are this:
1. Move to Tampa in September.
2. Grow The Get In Shape Girl online personal training
3. Increase my lifts by 15% and overall Crossfit performance
4. Be social – connect with a friend once a week via text, email or phone call
5. Do a freestanding hand stand push up
6. Do all of this while having visible abs.
