Do you struggle with feeling chronically fatigued? Is that standing in your way of reaching your personal fitness goals? Keep reading if you want to end this problem and get your life (and body) back!
First you gotta figure out WHY you are so tired. The easiest thing is to eliminate any kind of illness or deficiency. Obviously if you have a virus this is going to take a toll on your immune system and your energy. But have your doctor test you for a vitamin D deficiency because that can be a major cause for fatigue and a quick fix.
Next, look at your sleep and be honest.. are you getting 7 – 9 hours of DEEP sleep? Our bodies do not function well without that. If that is the case for you, prioritize sleep. If you do not you aren’t putting yourself in a position to lose fat or build muscle. You compromise your immune function, your adrenal glands, thyroid, gut health, and the list goes on and on.
You need to do a major overhaul here if you are not getting enough sleep. Until you are getting your 7 – 9 hours a night, I do not suggest you add in any daily workouts, particularly high intensity interval training. Your body is already in a state of stress and this is only going to make it worse. Get into a routine of going to bed and getting up at the same time. Wind down your evenings by getting off your phone, away from the television, or whatever routine works best for you. I also love magnesium to help calm the CNS to help you fall asleep and sleep deeply.
The next thing to determine is if you are eating enough calories and possibly enough carbohydrates. Calories are a unit of measurement of energy. If you expend 2400 calories a day but only consume 1400 calories a day, your body will learn to function on so few calories and everything will just be tired and sluggish. Under eating will not help you burn fat faster. It will not help you build muscle. Under eating will compromise your immune system, adrenals, thyroid, reproductive organs, stress your body out and leave you feeling tired all the time. You need to be on a clean eating meal plan that does allow you to lose fat, but also helps you feel energized and healthy! Also, if you are training HARD or know your body is fueled well by eating carbs and you are on a low carb diet, don’t be afraid to eat carbs. They replenish glycogen stores in our muscles to help us build muscle and energize our bodies for day to day activities and daily workouts too!
Take a look at the quality of what you are eating. If you are eating a lot of processed foods, if you are eating a lot of foods that contain alcohol, sugar alcohols, artificial sweeteners, sugar, soy, and possibly dairy and gluten, your gut may not be functioning properly. If your gut is not functioning properly this can jack up your hormones and ultimately your brain function and energy levels. Possibly eliminate some foods from your diet to see how you feel without them, but of course add in more of the good stuff like shrimp, chicken, steak, broccoli, potatoes and zucchini, and see how you feel.
