If you get frustrated during the process of reaching your goals, you struggle with fulfillment, resentment or motivation during the process, keep reading…
To begin, we must establish EXACTLY what we want to accomplish and WHY we want to accomplish that goal, and it must be something we want with our entire heart and soul.
Perhaps you want to lose 40 pounds. Perhaps you want visible abs. Maybe you want to run a marathon. Whatever that goal is, make sure every thread of you wants it, then determine why. Maybe you want to lose 40 pounds or see your abs because you know if you do you will feel super confident and sexy which will help your relationships. Or maybe losing body fat means you will have more energy and you get to live longer without health problems. Maybe running a marathon is important to you because it will increase your life fulfillment. But get clear on your why because there are going to be days that you just don’t care about running or having a six pack, but you will still be motivated by your why.
Next you must create a plan. If your goal is to lose 40 pounds in nine months, look at your schedule and determine how many days you can get to the gym to lift and how many days you can workout at home. Or find a marathon six months out so you have time to get your cardio down so you can run further and further, then settle on a training plan for that. (Learn more about your daily workout plan here.) If you want a six pack, hone in your diet and play with your macros to see what works. (You can learn more about nutrition here.) And if you need assistance figuring out a plan, hire me and we can go over your goals and the best way to achieve them based on your body and your life.
But be prepared to have a back up plan and to be flexible. There are going to be days you will not be able to get to the gym and you will have to do your workout routine at home. There will be days you think you have a healthy meal prepped and someone snagged your protein. There’s going to be a million things that pop up and you have to be flexible enough to make do and keep going and you have to have a positive mindset to know that even though this thing happened, it doesn’t mean you have failed – it means you have to work around it.
Which brings me to my next point which is simply to be grateful. When the universe brings you a challenge, it’s an opportunity to learn and become stronger. So if your goal is to get a six pack but suddenly a family member gets sick, you can be grateful when you do get a chance to go for a simple walk because that is something you can do for your body – you will be back in the gym soon enough. Or if your goal is to lose 40 pounds but maybe for two weeks straight you have seen no progress, you can simply express gratitude to yourself for continuing to show up to get in your workout routines and follow your clean eating meal plan despite how frustrating the process is. Whatever you do, if you can find the positive in your situation, it will make the process easier.
Finally, the last piece is to have balance. If your goal is to run a marathon in six months, know you can’t run every single day leading up to it. You will need to take days off. If your goal is to lose 40 pounds in six months, you will need to add some pizza and cookies to your plan here and there because if you eat nothing but chicken and broccoli for six months, you will get sick of it and quit. Balance is what keeps you going for the long haul.
