In my opinion, body positivity is a movement that a lot of companies are using as marketing campaigns to show that they inclusive to over weight women. It’s marketing that businesses are using to get you to buy their products. BUT, it’s still a movement nonetheless.
Assuming that it isn’t a mask to hide behind while eating fast food and being lazy, I support it. I mean, going through a drive through for fast food isn’t going to make anyone feel positive.. well unless they feel positive that they’re gonna need to find a bathroom soon. So, now that we are on the same page about body positivity really is.. we can continue.
As humans (because men feel like this too) we always want more and struggle to be happy with our bodies. I want a bigger booty and more more defined abs. Another girl wants to lose 20 pounds. Another can’t stop thinking she’s big though she is tiny. Even a guy I spoke to last week is bummed about losing 20 pounds of mass recently.
We have to find a way to be happy with ourselves. We won’t find it staring hopelessly into the mirror. We won’t find it through reassurance from friends. We won’t find it through getting asked out by men. We won’t find through endless hours of workout routines.
It has to come from within.
You can’t beat yourself up for having one slice of pizza – or even a whole pizza. You can’t beat yourself up for a social night out with your friends. You can’t beat yourself up from missing one daily workout session.
You can only make the decision that is the very best for you at each moment in life.
Go take a look in the mirror right now and make note of one thing you like about what you see. Compliment yourself on it now, and compliment yourself on it daily. Then find something else you like and compliment yourself on both of those things.
Go do something to make yourself feel proud. Set a goal to be able to back squat your own body weight ten times. Sign up for a 10k and run the whole thing. Show up to your very first pole class and learn a new trick. Work hard to build your own pride in yourself.
None of us are perfect. We aren’t supposed to be. But those imperfections aren’t flaws.
Health & fitness is not supposed to be about who is skinniest, who has the biggest shoulders and who has the least cellulite.
Health isn’t just about looks. Health is mental AND physical.
Find something – anything, and focus on that. Remind yourself daily that you are great. What’s the point of beating yourself up? Be proud – life is far too short.
