This story is about my long-time client Teresa. I may have overstepped my boundaries in the beginning, but I am glad I did. Every now and then people need a little tough love and this is one case of how it changed a woman’s life for the better.
Working with Kyra gave me the kick start I needed to get going again. I was formerly in amazing shape, then went back to school. It became all about convenience at that point because I worked an hour and a half away and went to school an hour more from that!
I worked 50+ hours a week! went to school for 5 hours per week, did research papers and homework and not to mention tried to be a wife and mother. It was too much and something had to give. I have a wheat allergy, but during that time of needing convenience I lost my way with that as well. I blew up, got severe headaches, eczema, and GI distress. I can’t even describe how bad I felt. But, it was still about fitting the most in the least amount of time.
As I finished classes I looked in the mirror and just broke down, I had sallow skin, awful hair, brittle finger nails, and on and on. So, I made a promise to myself that I would lose that weight again.
My husband was supportive at first because I was just trying to get in the workout habit. He loved to workout, so he was on board. We built an amazing gym in our basement and got to work. I saw immediate results with little diet changes…just went back wheat free. Lost 7 lbs in one week, my headaches and GI distress started going away.
About 3 months in, I stagnated because I didn’t have a defined workout schedule or diet. I started googling random things to help get me motivated to take the next step. So, I literally googled “get in shape” and Kyra was the first one. I saw her on Facebook, so I followed her to make sure she wasn’t a kook! As a nurse, I can spot BS and not scientifically validated from a mile away. As I watched Facebook stories evolve, I decided to give it a whirl.
I signed up at the basic level. The first week was a reality check. I posted on the forum how awful my husband is with diet and support and instead of sympathy, I got told to quit making excuses. I was HOT!! I even wrote an email saying as much. I almost cancelled, but didn’t have time to sit down and figure out how. After pouting for a week, I decided to give the workouts a whirl and holy cow…they were tough.
Then, I read a blog about have I fired a client before. And, when I read the “you say” and “I hear” it really hit home!! I had a knock down drag out fight with my husband and told him with or without his support, I was doing this….period. And, along came the #Commit2Fit online personal training program.
Kyra taught me to throw the damn scale away! I haven’t thrown it away, but I’ve banished it to the basement and only weigh every 2 weeks. I measure and take pics, which is so much more satisfying. I’ve lost 2 dress sizes and am fitting in clothes I put away when I gained.
I got amazing diet advice and the workouts rocked. 12 weeks later, I was down 21 lbs and a total of 10 inches! I was getting amazing definition. So, as #Commit2Fit came to a close, and I had more inches to lose….
Which leads us to the muscle building workout plan –
I saw that it was a lot of lifting. It is hard for me to do a lot of jumping with my hips. But now that I have so much more weight off, I feel like I can go back and do some of those old jumping moves and do them correctly. The workouts were fantastic. I loved seeing my strength increase and my muscle definition begin to surface.
I describe this workout plan all the time to my friends when they ask me what I’m doing. I tell them that not only do you get a daily workout schedule, so there is no guessing what to do or fiddling around trying to think up what to do next, but you also get the best support when you are faltering. The coaches in the private Facebook group have been amazing, but having other women with the same struggles has been the most important part. I never knew how important that was until it’s close to the end and I’m sad to see that go away.
I am gaining my confidence back. And, when I try to make am excuse, I hear Kyra’s voice in my head saying “you say” but “I hear” (from the “Client I Fired” blog) and it prods me to just go do the workout. Now, I really get bummed if I do have to miss a workout and my diet is just about spot on. I do a cheat meal once a week, but during the week I make clean eating recipes.
As I mentioned previously, my husband was a big barrier and Kyra told me to stop making excuses….so I did. Now, when he cooks dinner, he actually texts me and asks if I can eat what he’s thinking. If I can’t and he still wants it, we keep eggs for me to make when I get done with my workout. He is also working out with me and baby stepping towards clean eating. Kyra telling me to put myself first has actually saved my marriage. Always putting others and chores ahead of me was killing me inside and I didn’t even know it.
I feel so much better about myself and am beginning to carry myself better as a result. Someone at work actually asked me if I was taller! Nope, just prouder!! I haven’t had a headache in forever, and I had those daily. I can handle stress so much better and as a result feel more focused. I also have your words in my head… when I want a treat, I ask myself if it’s worth it, what time of day it is so I don’t ruin a whole day, and ask myself if this will help me achieve my goals. If the answer is no to any of them, then I just walk away. People around me have marveled at how I can stare at a cinnamon roll, sniff it, and then walk away!
I feel so different. I feel stronger and more fit cardio-wise. I also feel stronger mentally. Now, instead of saying “can’t get that workout in” I say “can’t get that chore in because I’m getting that workout in!”
I can’t thank Kyra enough for giving me the strength to feel important enough and value myself enough to stand up and demand to do this for myself. Loving the new found confidence more than anything in the world!
I hope you can know and understand how you have not only helped me transform my body, but also my self esteem, will power, and my overall confidence. I can’t possibly put into words exactly what you’ve given me back!
