I just got home from a very long wedding weekend in New Orleans. Tyler and I had the most exquisite time. We knew we never wanted a traditional wedding, so when he proposed we knew right away we wanted to wed in New Orleans as it’s our favorite city.
We got married in Pirates Alley (a literal alley) in the French Quarter with 50 of our closest friends and family members. We second lined down Bourbon Street to Laftitte’s, an old black smith shop turned into a bar that outlasted prohibition.
It was the most GLORIOUS 68 degree sunny day. Our favorite brass band played the wedding. The energy was vibrant and joyous. It felt so surreal. You can actually watch the ceremony here if you want!
You can imagine, coming home has been rough. I’ve been physically and mentally exhausted, and quite honestly, depressed. When I get back from any trip I feel sad it’s over. My dopamine and serotonin levels are depleted. But more than anything, I question everything I am doing. I want a life filled with adventure and exploration. I am fairly confident the time I spend studying and working out is just something to do to pass the time.
I struggle to go back to the gym because it feels so overwhelming. I’ve missed so many training days, I don’t know where to pick back up. I am tired so exercise feels really hard. I am having intense sugar cravings to bring my energy levels and dopamine back up.
But I have three things I fall back on to get me back on track:
1. My goals – Deep down I know it’s very important to me to be healthy and confident in my skin.
2. My habits – I always go to the gym or yoga at 11am so I just navigate myself there on autopilot.
3. My awareness – I know that every time I come home from a trip I feel this way, so I can remind myself of that, and that it is temporary.
When I work with clients, this happens to them too. Not just after vacations, but after they have a baby, move into a new house, get a new job, lose their job, lose a loved one, have a really crappy few days of eating.. It can literally be anything that is a monumental time of your life.
The difference between what I do and what you do on your own is that I help you with those three things that WILL help you get back and stay on track.
Sure, you can learn macros on your own or you could join a CrossFit gym and do great DIY’ing it. But what do you do when shit hits the fan? What do you do when you go on vacation for a week, do nothing but eat out? What do you do when you get sick or have to get a second job?
I know what is going on in my clients’ lives. If they lose a loved one, get pregnant and have morning sickness or if they have to go on a work trip for five days, I know about it and can help navigate them through these things.
We talk about their goals so I can remind them of what’s truly important if they lose sight. We talk about how they feel when they come home from a trip feeling lethargic and bloated, the decisions they perhaps could have made differently to feel a little better so they’re prepared for the next trip. And we work together to build habits so even when they are struggling, they still hit the gym at 6am because it’s just second nature.
Your life is never going to be void of ups and downs. But you can learn and prepare and that’s probably the most important thing I do with my clients.
In #Commit2Fit of course we do meal planning, I teach about nutrition, we do workouts and I teach you how to and help you lose fat. But more than anything, I can show you how to get back on track and I help you go through the struggles so you come out better on the other side.
If you are looking for a coach or program that will help you get and maintain results, join #Commit2Fit. We begin April 4th. I only open this program up to 30 women at a time so we get to know each other very well. I want to be there for YOU.
