Most women don’t realize how much their energy, mood, cravings, metabolism, and even body composition are tied to one thing: blood sugar.

Last week I shared the basics on understanding blood sugar, so if you missed that post read it here.

When your blood sugar is stable, you feel clear, calm, and in control.
But when it’s on a rollercoaster all day? Everything feels harder.

Let’s break down what’s actually going on behind the scenes. Here is how unbalanced blood sugar impacts fat loss, cravings, and energy in women.

First, What Happens When You Eat?

When you eat food—especially carbohydrates—your blood sugar (aka glucose) rises. That’s normal. Your body breaks down food into glucose and uses it for energy.

But here’s the key: The bigger and faster that spike, the more insulin your body releases.

Insulin is a hormone made by your pancreas. Its job is to shuttle glucose out of your blood and into your cells. It will then be used right away for energy, or stored for later. Unfortunately it is often stored as fat, especially when insulin stays high.

When your blood sugar spikes too high too fast, insulin surges. Then the excess glucose gets quickly cleared from your bloodstream. That leads to a crash—and that crash is what causes the fatigue, brain fog, hunger. It may even lead to intense sugar cravings a couple hours later.

This creates a cycle:
Spike → Crash → Crave → Repeat.

Why It Gets Worse in Perimenopause

As we move into perimenopause, we naturally become less insulin sensitive. That means it takes more insulin to do the same job.
Then, even even moderate blood sugar spikes can create bigger insulin surges. This leads to more fat storage, more cravings, more fatigue, and more inflammation.

Add in poor sleep, high stress, and the hormonal shifts happening during perimenopause, and suddenly your body is in a state of constant stress and imbalance.

This is why so many women say, “I’m eating the same as I always have, but now I’m gaining weight and nothing works.”
It’s not about eating less. It’s about eating in a way that helps your body regulate again.

The Impact Isn’t Just Physical

When your blood sugar is unsteady, it doesn’t just affect your waistline.

You might notice:
– afternoon energy crashes
– feeling “wired but tired” at night
– brain fog and irritability
– uncontrollable cravings
– restless sleep or waking at 2-3am
– feeling hungry even after you’ve eaten

All of these are signs that your glucose + insulin rhythm is off.

The Good News?

This isn’t about restriction, tracking, or cutting out carbs.
It’s about learning how to eat in a way that keeps your blood sugar more stable.

That’s what I’ll show you inside the Blood Sugar Mastery Challenge — but for now, just know that when you support your blood sugar, your entire body starts to function better.

Balanced blood sugar means more energy, better sleep, fewer cravings, less inflammation. But most importantly, a body that finally starts to feel like yours again.

👉 Stay tuned for Part Three — we’ll dive into exactly what to eat, how to build meals that support your hormones, and how this ties into fat loss without tracking or restriction. Hopefully this helped you understand how unbalanced blood sugar impacts fat loss, cravings, and energy in women
