Getting insight into your tissues can help you understand the symptoms you may be experiencing and is essential in designing the nutrition and lifestyle protocol that is right for you.
Your metabolic and nutritional status can be viewed and interpreted as well as how efficiently your body is working.
What serves as good nutrition advice for one isn't good for everyone - this allows us to drill down on a custom protocol for you.
Your hair contains all of the minerals present in your body, including nutritional minerals as well as toxic metals. This shows us what you may need more or less of.
An HTMA provides a picture of your internal environment. It is possible to see what is happening in your body without you even noticing through symptoms.
Understanding your mineral levels can potentially give you insight to other things going on inside the body such as too much stress or exposure to increased pollution.
Minerals are the energy system for the body. They are responsible for reactions in every system of the body including contraction and relaxation of every muscle, nutrient transfers between cells and so much more!
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis is a test that uses a small sample of recent hair or nail growth to provide information about your average mineral and heavy metal accumulation in the tissues over the last 8-12 weeks.
This reveals unique insight into the metabolism and intracellular activity that cannot be seen through other tests. Think of it as a blue print of your biochemistry for the last 2-3 months.
Real Life Examples That Have Been Discovered Through Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis & How It Has Been Shown To Be Beneficial In Diet And Lifestyle Protocols To Help Each Individual Feel & Look Amazing
High Sodium Status/ Low Sodium Intake
This person consumed a low sodium diet, yet sodium levels were high. This is indicative of overactive adrenals. Rather than increasing sodium in diet, the recommendation to add more carbs and decrease cardio helped this client have more energy and lose fat.
High Tissue Calcium
Initially high tissue calcium may been recognized as having a diet low in calcium, though after tracking this has shown to not be the case. But if proteins are not effectively broken down, calcium isn't absorbed. Instead, adding HCL to improve protein synthesis allowed for breakdown and improved calcium absorption.
Low Copper Status
This was indicated in someone who was later diagnosed with an under active thyroid. Through removing gluten from this person's diet upon this, she was able to mitigate the symptoms of fatigue and fat gain despite slowing of the metabolism.
Low Calcium to Magnesium Ratio
This has been shown to indicate high blood sugar levels and was the case for this client. By increasing weight training, decreasing refined carbohydrates and increasing overall activity (daily step count) this client decreased their afternoon fatigue and improved their a1c blood sugar levels (and improved fat loss efforts!)
Low Sodium to Magnesium Ratio
The sodium to magnesium in this client's test was below normal, causing chronic constipation. One of the causes of this is reduced adrenal function, so by supporting the adrenals through diet and lifestyle, she was able to alleviate her constipation.
High Cobalt Levels
This client had high cobalt levels, a sign her liver was stressed. We removed most processed foods from her diet, reduced alcohol intake and exposure to other environmental stressors to support her liver. These allowed her to feel immensely better, have more energy, clearer skin and feel happier and healthier.
Still Undecided?
Getting the knowledge and insight of your body gives you the power to understand what's going on and how to help yourself feel and look your best!
Here's exactly what you're getting...
I've felt like l'm not making any progress and have so much weight to lose but I actually like every single picture from last night. I'm feeling much stronger and more comfortable in my body. I still have work to do but you were right- slowly but surely. Thank you so much for everything- your help, physically and emotionally.

Making good eating choices is easier and I actually WANT to make those choices. I still have junk in the house because not everyone is on board and that's fine, but usually it'd be hard for me to not eat that stuff. Now it feels hard to bring myself to eat it. If I'm hungry, none of the junk sounds good.

Your programming and nutrition knowledge is awesome and so simple! Just do it, be consistent, and it will pay off! The mindset of “everyone is human, we are all working on goals, we all slip up and that's ok” has also really helped me. I don't have to be perfect here, I just have to be human and it feels amazing knowing that!
Cassie, FL
I'm making better choices 90% of the time and am more aware of getting more protein and veg into my body each day - I am consciously making better eating choices. I feel better about how I am eating now than how I was eating previously. I can out longer than I have in a while and I am lifting even more than before. I also don't have a midday tired slump anymore.

Testing offers insight into digestive health, thyroid function, adrenal health, inflammation, heavy metal toxicity, mineral imbalances, immune function, and more.
Not only is HTMA affordable, and provides incredibly valuable insight, but it’s also accurate. Find out how your minerals play a role in these systems & how to optimize them to help you feel and look your best..
Why HTMA?
Your hair contains all of the minerals found in your body, including both essential nutritional minerals and harmful heavy metals. Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (commonly abbreviated as HTMA) is a laboratory procedure designed to quantify this mineral composition within the hair. Typically, the test outcomes offer insights into the mineral presence in your tissues, offering a comprehensive view of your internal environment. This data allows for the interpretation of various metabolic processes. Not only does it provide a glimpse into your nutritional status, but it also sheds light on the efficiency of your body's functioning.
This method of analysis offers a unique perspective into tissues and cells that would otherwise remain unseen, providing a non-invasive and cost-effective alternative to traditional tissue biopsies.
How will HTMA help me improve my health?
If we differentiate between diet as what we consume and nutrition as what our bodies absorb, it becomes evident that identifying our body's specific needs at any given time is crucial for maintaining health. With over 30 years of research, hair analysis has emerged as a practical method for assessing mineral balance within the body. This valuable tool not only highlights which foods and supplements are necessary but also identifies those that should be avoided.
However, what constitutes good nutrition for one individual may not necessarily apply to another. Your Hair Analysis Report is crafted to assist both you and your healthcare provider in devising the most suitable nutritional program tailored to your specific needs.
Why not do blood work to test minerals?
When mineral levels are tested in the blood, the results reflect the minerals being transported at that specific moment. The blood strongly maintains homeostasis, often at the expense of tissues. It tends to draw minerals from tissues to keep blood levels stable, while excess minerals are stored in tissues to reduce blood levels.
While blood testing is valuable in many respects, it alone doesn't offer comprehensive insights into mineral levels. Not to mention, tissue minerals are 10x greater than they are in the blood, so there is less variance and more insight can be acquired.
What info can we get about heavy metals through HTMA?
Toxic metals typically aren't present in high levels in the blood, except immediately following acute exposure, as they're swiftly relocated to maintain blood equilibrium. Urine testing often involves the client taking a chelator to draw out heavy metals, with the test then gauging the levels in that specific urine sample. Stool tests offer insights into heavy metals eliminated via the biliary route on the given day.
HTMA reveals heavy metals eliminated through the hair over the preceding 2-3 months. These metals tend to accumulate in soft tissues, and HTMA can detect low levels of chronic exposure that result in gradual buildup over time.
What can this test tell me about a condition or symptom I am experiencing?
Minerals play vital roles in countless enzyme reactions across all systems of your body. For example, they are crucial for muscle contraction and relaxation, facilitate nutrient transfer across cell membranes, and fulfill numerous other functions.
Given their foundational importance, imbalances in minerals often underlie various symptoms and conditions. When interpreting HTMA results, we don't tailor our analysis based on specific conditions or symptoms. However, we typically identify potential mineral imbalances that could be linked to the symptoms individuals are experiencing.
Our approach to balancing minerals remains consistent. We prioritize addressing the highest priority pattern or ratio identified in the HTMA results first, as it directly impacts other minerals and contributes to overall balance restoration.
Do I have to send hair and how much?
The hair to be collected should be clean and you should not use permed, dyed or bleached hair. The hair should come from several areas of your scalp on the back portion of your head. Part your hair and cut as close to the scalp as possible. Cut away excess hair from the sample, leaving about 1 to 1 ½ inches of the root end. The total amount of hair needed is about a tablespoon. (A scale for the proper amount will be included in the envelope sent to you.) If you can't send scalp hair, nails and pubic samples can be used. But be aware that the test results may not reflect your most recent mineral patterns because these tissues grow more slowly and sporadic than scalp hair.
Can my shampoo/hair dye affect the results?
"Certain cosmetic hair treatments can contaminate scalp hair such as dyes that contain lead acetate, bleaching processes that artificially affect calcium, and medicated shampoos that contain zinc or selenium. However, only the individual element is affected. All of the other minerals tested are valid.
With our extensive ability for interpreting and comparing test results to individual metabolic characteristics, these effects can be overcome." - From the Trace Elements website
What will my analysis and personalized plan consist of?
Your lab reports are based upon a vast amount of scientific studies and on-going research conducted by David L.
Watts, Ph.D. at Trace Elements. From the Trace Elements website, "each report will evaluate several hundred factors, such as; the nutritional mineral levels, their interrelationships (ratios), heavy metals, as well as your individual metabolic categorization. Your individualized Hair Analysis report takes each of these factors into consideration along with your age, sex and current health symptoms. What emerges is a very comprehensive report complete with graphs and accompanying explanations and recommendations for you and a more technical report for your health care professional. Use of this additional screening test may help you to learn a lot about your body, perhaps answers you have been seeking for years."
Not only will you receive this report, but I will go through the report line by line to create an analysis for you along with nutrition and lifestyle recommendations based on the findings. Having someone who is educated and experienced in properly interpreting and analyzing this data is of utmost importance.
Once you receive your report and 12 week protocol I will recommend following this for 12 weeks then re-testing. We want to see if the changes help you feel better as well as get those minerals, metals and ratios in good standing. If you wanna DIY it, you are welcome to do so. If you would like continued support along the way we will chat about what that will look like in our email correspondence based on availability in my current programs.
