My client, Mayya, has been with me in #Commit2Fit for over two years and over the summer, she had her first baby! I was able to help Mayya all the way through her entire pregnancy and then after the baby as well. Her greatest strength through it all was her consistency and simply listening to her body. I am so proud of this fit mama.. Here is the story of her personal fitness pregnancy journey!
My journey started 2 years ago when I finally had enough. (You can read her previous story here.) I was just tired of constantly being unhappy with myself. I wanted to be healthy, happy, consistent, energized. I wanted to have my body in the best shape it could be so that if there ever was any future plans for my husband and I to expand our family, it would be so much easier for me to go through the pregnancy. But initially, my goal was to lose inches, gain strength, and fit into my goal jeans (from 10+ years ago). And I nailed it!
And then I got pregnant.
My experience with working with Kyra and her #Commit2fit program was AMAZING. It was EXACTLY what I needed. I needed someone to tell me how to eat (NOT what to eat) and have the workouts spelled out exactly for me. I loved that the workout routines were new EVERY SINGLE WEEK. I no longer had to rely on myself to build something (as I am no beginner to the gym) nor was I wasting money on plans that had you do THE SAME EXACT THING for 4 weeks in a row. Kyra’s workout routines were fresh, fast, and never boring. But on top of it all, I needed the accountability. Although her #Commit2Fit program is a 1-on-1 program, the best accountability I got was with the AMAZING group of ladies who were going through it with me. The group is small, the energy is positive, and we become a second family– far from ANY Facebook group or workout routine I have ever wasted my money on.
I went through half of 2017 pregnant and doing #Commit2Fit because Kyra cares. I didn’t want to look for another program. I didn’t want to find another trainer. She began introducing her modified workout routines and it was EXACTLY what I needed. I honored my body and listened to it. I ate intuitively because I had learned HOW to eat.
My primary goal the entire time was to not lose strength. And you know what…? NAILED IT AGAIN! I lost EVERYTHING I gained during pregnancy because when I needed to make changes, I let Kyra know and she worked with me. I was mindful, careful, and incredibly excited for what my body could accomplish. I never gained more than the necessary “baby” stuff. I didn’t have a hard pregnancy. I didn’t have a hard labor. And I was recovered and SLOWLY back to it within 3 weeks post-partum. I am still shocked about it.
Besides physically creating a human being, one of the most important thing I achieved mentally and emotionally was the ability to really listen to my body. Pregnancy is not a time to diet or hit PRs. Pregnancy is a time to nurture. My focus was ensuring I’m providing the RIGHT nutrients to me and my baby, and I fully believe that is what contributed to never having cravings or aversions. The female body is incredible. It’s our job to honor that.
The hardest thing to overcome was the “dieters mindset.” Every trimester I was having to increase my calorie intake. And stepping on the scale was always so anxiety-riddled. But, it was all part of the process. I controlled what I could– getting the right foods, moving my body, and lifting heavy. I don’t think women realize that labor is a HUGE stress on the body and something that you have to train for. You wouldn’t go out and run a marathon without training…. why would you do it with labor (considering that your pregnancy was normal without any complications)?
From a pregnancy perspective– focus on your health before you get pregnant. It helps the transition so much. And then, don’t stop. The first trimester can be difficult, but moving and eating mindfully REALLY helps. The last trimester can be frustrating because you can’t bend over and your balance is off, but keep going. DO NOT GIVE UP. Remember, you are training for the event of your life… for the life event of your baby.
The Facebook group is hands-down the best part of #Commit2Fit. The amazing, strong, supportive women in that group is what keeps me staying focused. Being able to be part of their journey and watch them grow is incredible. And I’m not talking about growing muscles— we grow emotionally and mentally together. Some rounds we’ve had book clubs. Some rounds we’ve talked about personal adversity. But every round we’ve had each other to cheer on.
I’ve recommended and introduced #Commit2Fit to a few friends and they’ve all had positive experiences, some of which keep coming back for more. This is the best addiction to have!
