Mayya has been a client of mine since 2015. She has participated in every single session of my one on one program, #Commit2Fit,  and no matter what is going on in her life, she applies at least a small part of her life to being healthy and fit. She follows a clean eating meal plan – it’s not strict, but it’s healthy and allows for treats. She follows a daily workout plan that includes lifting and cardio. It doesn’t stress her out, but it adds TO her life, it doesn’t take.

You can read her very first success story here.

You can read her second story here as she stepped up her game and become really committed to her physique.

And you find out how her pregnancy went here.

One year ago I had my first child. A beautiful baby girl. It changed my entire lifestyle. It was neither a good or bad thing– just a change that had to be adapted to.

You see, 6 months-ish prior to that, I asked Kyra if she could help modify some of the exercises to accommodate for my changing body– and she did! It made the transition SO much easier for me. I was still doing her amazing circuits, but with some minor modifications and a little less PR’s.

That was great.

But then the baby came… And you never know what to expect as the baby has a schedule of her own. Oh, and the MAJOR healing your body has to do. But I continued to work with Kyra so that she could guide me in the best way for me to re-enter my daily workouts and maintain my nutrition. Between doctor’s orders and her guidance, I was able to get back to VERY LOW RESISTANT training by week 3 post-partum. Gentle walks. Low weights. Nothing too exciting. By week 6, I was back at the gym kicking booty.

But that’s still the easy part. For 12 weeks I was on maternity leave, so I had a lot more flexibility to my schedule. The baby had her own food. I didn’t really have to plan “family friendly” meals yet. I could follow a clean eating meal plan that suited me.

And then… I went back to work. The demands of working a desk job, plus rushing home to care for the baby, plus maintaining a household, oh, and a few sleepless nights meant that I had to shift a lot of things around…. And the way that Kyra structured my workouts and nutrition made it SO MUCH EASIER.

I started to truly learn balance and prioritization. New habits and rituals evolved that went beyond just the gym — waking up, breaking up household chores, batch cooking — all of that had to change, and I was flexible enough to accept it.

There were weeks where I didn’t get all of my daily workouts, had to travel for work, dealt with minor health issues, or had an unplanned recover week, but I didn’t wallow in my “failure,” but rather accepted that it was my body’s (or life’s) way of telling me to slow it down before I fell apart.

It took my body a few months to permanently heal to the point of me lifting heavy again, about half a year for all of the swelling to go down, and 1 year to finally SEE the muscle building again, and I am entirely grateful for Kyra’s guidance and the amazing support of the group. The year wasn’t easy or stress-free, but it’s been an incredible opportunity for me to learn resilience and mental fortitude.

I am truly amazed by what my body could achieve– creating another human being, healing itself naturally, and restoring itself to perform at its highest level.

I always do and always will recommend KWF to anyone who is ready to take back control, but with the caveat that you have to put in the work. She will give you the road map, but it’s up to you to get into the car and drive.

And mamma’s-to-be: THIS is what you need. Pregnancy (and post-partum) is NOT the time to sit back and enjoy doughnuts. On the contrary: it’s the time to be extra cautious with your body. You are creating a human being that is entirely dependent on you and how you treat your body.

Keep changing things up. Things will get stagnant. You will get bored. So change it up before you snowball into self-pity. Don’t give up on yourself. You are so worth it.

I have been trying to make sense as to why I am where I am, and so much of it was starting slow. Despite always being some who needed to jump feet first, so much of my habits have started from dipping my toes in a little at time. Get comfortable. Add something new. Keep going.

It’s the stacking effect. Stacking good and better habits on top of each other until they become a routine part of my life and there’s no more thinking about it.
