If you didn’t do laundry, swept, mopped or clean your tub for a week, would you burn your house down?

Probably not. You would likely start by doing one load and sweeping. Then the next day cleaning your bathroom and maybe a second load and so on until you caught up. Then you would probably try to keep at these thing, little by little, day by day so you didn’t have to do a mass overhaul, right?

I think of diets and working out the same way. One day you plan out your meals, grocery shop and eat some steak and sweet potato. The next day you hit the gym, get in a strength training workout, then have a healthy dinner.

But it doesn’t all need to be done in one day. You do not need to clean out your cabinets, go keto, do an hour long daily workout every day. Start with small manageable steps.

There are days you eat spinach salads, ALLLL the chicken, you nail your macros and you get an extra ten minutes to do cardio. Then there are days you drink wine and say screw it and have half a tray of brownies. But you can always come back to eating whole foods, to moving your body and hydrating. 

When I see someone go 0-60 and eliminate all carbs, entire food groups like dairy and gluten (excluding those with sensitivities,) lower their calories drastically, or spend hours working out, it makes me cringe because this only perpetuates the all or nothing mentality. 

Most people can’t keep up with that lifestyle, causing them to say “screw it, I’m getting nachos,” and then feeling like a loser. 

Just get back in the gym the next day, even if it’s 20 minutes, drink some water and handle it like the big girl you are. It’s not black and white. It’s all kinds of crazy colors. It’s life.
