Not that I am a professional football fan in the least, I prefer college, but you have to be living under a rock to not realize that it’s playoff season and watch parties are in full swing.

So rather than telling you to show up at your friends house with a veggie tray, I’m going to share a few recipes that won’t leave you feeing miserable. In this game day eating guide, I’m going to share with you how I prefer to eat at watch parties.

But before, I want to give you a few pieces of advice when it comes to splurge eating –

  1. If you know something causes you digestive distress, it’s not for you. It’s not that you “can’t have it,” because you can, but it’s not worth it. Remember how terrible it makes you feel, ask yourself if you want to deal with that, THEN make your decision.
  2. If there’s food being offered that you don’t love, you can always say no thank you. It’s not rude and if you don’t make a big deal of it, neither will they.
  3. If there’s food being offered that you don’t love, skip it. You don’t need to eat everything that is there. Just eat the things you love and bring you joy.
  4. If there’s something there that you love but you know doesn’t align with your goals, remember that eating for joy is okay. Have a few bites, savor them, and move on.
  5. Remember that it really comes down to quantity. Don’t over do it and you will be fine!

Now, here are some clean eating recipes I love!

Quinoa black bean mango salsa

Slow cooker wings

Bacon and beef meatballs

Buffalo chickpea salad bites

Southwest sliders

Buffalo cauliflower

Roasted butternut squash and black bean tostadas

Pico or guac with chips made with avocado oil

Popcorn made with avocado oil

For alcohol I would recommend being mindful of seltzers – they’re actually just fermented cane sugar with flavorings and sometimes artificial sweeteners. Instead I would recommend going for actual tequila soda or vodka soda with juice added. It may be a few more calories, but it’s at least not artificial. Or try to find a brand that is organic so at least the natural flavors are not synthetic.

In case you overdo it, have a plan.

If you overdo it and don’t feel great, sipping a little aloe vera juice before bed can give you heart burn relief https://amzn.to/3Jd7ZXH, apple cider vinegar and water can help with indigestion (I recommend a high quality brand with the mother like this https://amzn.to/3H1VKL3) and digestive enzymes can help you digest your food better and relieve bloat https://amzn.to/3H5lXsa.

Now.. go watch the game, not your waist with this guide to game day eating!
