I remember when I wanted to lose weight. I was so confused because there’s so much conflicting information out there. I just wanted someone to tell me what to eat, how much and when.
Then when I was training for a bikini competition, I actually did have someone telling me what to eat, how much and when and I HATED it. It absolutely served its purpose – I had to look a very specific way which required a very specific diet. But I don’t believe that is what a normal person needs.
That was very strict and I honestly do not believe a person who wants to lose fat so they can look and feel good should be that strict. I believe there needs to be some freedom because if you want to lose fat and keep it off long term, you have to eat in a way you can sustain long term. If you follow a strict diet, it won’t last long. You may lose weight, but how will you keep it off?
The way I handle things with clients is that I, first, meet them where they are. I begin by helping them make small tweaks to how they already eat. If you are already eating four times a day, we will keep you at four meals a day because that is a habit. If you want to eat out everyday for lunch, you can still do that, but we may change what you choose. That way it isn’t extremely overwhelming.
Next, I actually do not have the credentials to tell someone what to eat and how much. But what I can do is give a person guidance on how to make healthy choices. So while I can’t tell someone to have four ounces of chicken, two cups of broccoli and a teaspoon of olive oil for lunch then four ounces of steak, six ounces of sweet potato and two cups of squash at dinner, I can give some suggestions on things that will help them fuel their bodies to reach their goals.
I can help you figure out about how much protein will help you achieve your goals and what good sources are. Same for carbs and fat. Then I can help you put together meals (THAT YOU ENJOY) that will help you get the right calories, macro and micronutrients you need to be healthy, lose fat, build muscle and have energy to look and feel great.
I can help you cut out the junk that you may not realize is what is holding you back from your goals, or that you know is holding you back but you are struggling to ditch.
And most importantly, I educate you to make the best decisions you can make on your own. Having someone tell you what to do may sound appealing at first, but it ends up being very restrictive and won’t serve you long term. I actually want my clients to not need me. It may sound like I’m trying to put myself out of business, but education is KEY to long term success.
