2011goals

Last year I posted a blog on my goal for 2010.

My one goal for last year was to become a personal trainer.  My life drastically changed in 2010.  In the spring I was laid off from my desk job in downtown Boston & was given an incredible opportunity to take the time necessary to become a personal trainer.  I studied my tail off for a couple of months, took the test & got a job.  I now have lots of clients that I get to help accomplish their goals.  And with every email, phone call, text & in person meeting, I get positive feedback from all of them telling me how great they are feeling as they get closer and closer to meeting their goals.

I really dislike “new years resolutions” because I feel like they are just something people say they want to do, they feel like they have a fresh start with the new year, etc, then they don’t feel like being patient or putting in the effort, so they give up.  I don’t think it takes a new year to set a goal.  Every month, every week, every morning and every hour brings about a new beginning if you think about it.  And if you want something bad enough, then you should not stop trying until you get it.  If you aren’t getting it by doing one particular thing, then try something to to attain that goal.  For example, if you want to lose 10 pounds and for 3 months you are doing cardio 4 times a week and you have only lost 2 pounds, then maybe you should change up your activity and/or your eating and try a new approach.  Anyway, on to the part of this blog where I tell you guys my goal(s).

In 2011 I want to start my online personal training website.  I am in the process of taking steps to get there already.  I am going to record videos of myself demonstrating exercises.  I have already ascertained exactly what the site needs.  With the help of someone very special in my life, I have begun to search for someone to begin creating the site.  The biggest factor I need here is the money to create it and the people to use it.  We are in the process now of earning money and the publicity as well.

What is your goal for 2011?  Sit down and write that goal out.  Describe in great detail WHY you want to accomplish it and why it is so important to you.  Is it because you want to look better to find a significant other?  Is it because you want to set a good example for your children?  Put those reasons down on paper.

Then write how it is going to help you find that person in your life, or how it is going to impact your kids if you accomplish this.  Make a vision board with all of the things in your life that you will earn by accomplishing this goal.  Put it somewhere that you see it daily.

Then set out a list of smaller goals that will help you attain the big picture.  Write out time line.  For example, if your goal is to run a marathon in October, put down a time line for smaller goals like, in Jan workout 5 times a week every week.  Feb, run a 5k road race. March, determine a marathon to sign up for.  April, sign up for the marathon, and determine a training plan.   This will help those 26 miles become less scary.  You can do anything if you set your mind to it.  Just map out a plan and make it happen.  And on those days you feel like giving up, go back to that piece of paper and re-read WHY you want to accomplish this goal.

Telling people also helps too because it holds you accountable.  Some people in your life will be cheerleaders, but aside from that, it’s helpful because you don’t want to tell the world your goal, then have to tell everyone you failed.

So tell me now… what do you want to accomplish in 2011?
