Hi, my name is Gwen and I’m a recovering cardio junkie! I grew up playing sports just like this. After high school I missed the “thrill” of cardio so I started running 5k’s. This actually paid off for me because while out running in college I was asked by the University rowing coach if I would be interested in joining the rowing team. Of course I jumped at the chance to part of a team again and get some exercise.
Welcome more running and cardio. After 2 years I transferred schools and was on my own again….here comes more running. I was still in college and anything more than 3 miles never crossed my mind. One, I thought people who ran more than 3 miles were crazy and two, I had to fit running in around my party and drinking schedule.
For about the next 10 years I was heavily involved in bike racing (that’s how I met my husband) and more and more running. I ran my first marathon in 2004, my second in 2005, my third in 2006 and my fourth (and final) in 2009. There were several half marathons thrown in there as well. Even with extreme amounts of cardio I never felt like my body was where I wanted it to be or look like I felt it “should” look.
Welcome Kyra Williams Fitness! I first came across Kyra on Sparkpeople. I was tracking my food and doing everything I “thought” was right, including restricting calories to 1500 or less a day while running and riding a ton. Kyra introduced me to heavy lifting and eating properly. I started eating 1700-1800 calories a day and eating much better food. I was fueling my body with the proper nutrition. I look back and think about the bowl of ice cream I ate because I thought I deserved it after a four hour ride. I now come home from a long run and eat the proper portions of carbs and protein so my body is ready for the next workout.
I have not only changed my body but I’ve also learned to feed my body the proper nutrition. I sleep better and just feel better all around. Kyra has taught me that this is a lifestyle. She has taught me that I can manage my sweet tooth and not feel guilty about it. I want to look and, most importantly, feel good. I have learned to feed and train my body to do amazing things. I’m now running a 5k at 8 minute pace thanks to online training with Kyra Williams Fitness. And most importantly I am healthy.
