Over the last year, I’ve been dealing with something that a lot of women I speak to struggle with, but something I never thought would be me. This is kinda hard for me to admit because I’ve always considered myself as someone who is kinda selfish, generally tends to put myself and my health first. Here I am now, feeling like a regular woman, dealing with some health repercussions from ongoing stress and lack of self care.
For me, it’s looked like histamine intolerance and allergies, periods of feeling really stressed and overwhelmed, and days where my energy just isn’t where I want it to be. I can get through the day, but that feeling of being vibrant, energized, and joyfully happy isn’t always there.
I want to wake up with energy, feel strong in the gym and be able to smile and laugh. Taking care of myself in a way that supports my health long term is also important to me. And if I’m being 100% honest, I want to be lean and muscular, have nice skin and look good!
To take the first step, I decided to do something that I recommend to many of my clients: run deeper testing and actually look at what’s happening inside my body. So I completed both a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) and the Nutri-Q questionnaire, and the experience was pretty eye-opening.
Why I Decided to Run an HTMA
Minerals are one of the most overlooked pieces of health. They affect things like:
• energy production
• stress resilience
• blood sugar regulation
• thyroid function
• digestion
• nervous system balance
When minerals become imbalanced, the body often starts sending subtle signals—things like fatigue, cravings, anxiety, poor sleep, stubborn fat loss, or inflammation.
For me, between the stress I’ve been under and the histamine and allergy symptoms I’ve experienced, I wanted to understand what my body was actually dealing with. Instead of guessing, I wanted data.
The Process Was Surprisingly Simple
One of the things I loved about doing the HTMA was how easy the process was. It’s literally just a small hair or nail sample so you can do it from home. Then send it to the lab and they analyze the mineral content in the hair, which reflects what has been happening inside your body over the last few months.
The Nutri-Q questionnaire was equally helpful. This is something I have all of my clients do as well, so I went ahead and did it on myself. It asks targeted questions about things like:
• energy levels
• digestion
• stress
• sleep
• cravings
• mood
• immune health
When you combine the questionnaire with the mineral analysis, you start to see patterns, which was really helpful for me to be able to take that objective look at my own health.
What Made It So Eye-Opening
What struck me the most when I reviewed my results was how clearly the mineral patterns reflected what I’ve been feeling. Unsurprisingly, stress patterns showed up along with energy patterns as well. Even the areas that could impact things like digestion and immune health were coming up for me.
When you see it laid out like that, it gives you a completely different perspective. It gave me such a sense of validation as it explained to me EXACTLY why I’ve been feeling the way I have, and helped me see what my body needs to feel and look better. That validation feels good, but the motivation feels even better. When I understand WHY I need to make other choices, I’m far more inclined to follow through.
Why Testing Like This Matters
A lot of people try to fix their health by guessing, trying random supplements, following whatever diet is trending or pushing harder in the gym hoping it will solve everything. But if the underlying physiology isn’t supported, those strategies often fall short.
Mineral testing helps uncover some of the deeper drivers behind symptoms like:
• fatigue
• brain fog
• stubborn fat loss
• poor recovery
• mood swings
• hormone challenges
And it gives you a roadmap to follow instead of guessing, getting nowhere, giving up and feeling like a failure. Over. And over. And over again.
It Made Me Want to Show Up for Myself
One of the unexpected things about doing this testing is how motivating it was. I’m not going to lie though.. getting the results back had me worried for a few days. I didn’t like what I saw. But after sitting with the results, I knew I would be okay, and that I now have all the knowledge and power I need to take my health back.
When you see the patterns in your body, it makes you want to take better care of yourself. Not from a place of restriction or punishment, but from a place of understanding. I am ready to meet myself where I am, just like how I approach things with my clients. Most of all, it reinforced the importance of:
• supporting my nervous system
• nourishing my body properly
• prioritizing recovery
• giving my body the minerals it needs to function well
That is the kind of foundation that supports everything else we want..energy, strength, resilience, and a body that feels good to live in… and looks the part too! Because like you, I want to feel and look amazing, so understanding what’s happening internally makes it so much easier to move toward those goals with intention.
