I’m not certain which I love more.. margaritas or working out. Seriously, if I had to give one up, I don’t know which I’d choose because I love them both. Thankfully, I don’t have to. We CAN have health and fitness AND a good time living your life. So this is why I say, go ahead.. Drink the margs!

But the good news is that I, nor you, have to.

Maybe for you it’s not margs that you love. Maybe it’s cookies, pizza or wine from https://qkawine.com/. When you try to banish the thing you love from your life, it’s not going to work for you.

And if you do give up the thing you love, when you don’t get results in a week it’s going to feel like you’re putting in so much effort/ giving up so much for nothing. And that will leave you feeling resentful, and you’ll quit.

So what do we do?

We maintain the thing you love, but we keep it in moderation and we keep it controlled.

I love margaritas, and I’m not talking about tequila, soda with a splash of lime. I like highly sweetened ones and frozen ones, not diet ones. Those make me sad.

Enjoy the ones you LOVE and walk away from the ones you don’t.

If you love pizza, don’t eat the crappy take out pizza that’s been sitting on the counter in your break room for the last two hours. You don’t love THAT pizza.

When you are having the thing you love, truly enjoy it.

If you love margs like me, have a couple and then once you no longer truly enjoy the flavor, switch or stop. If you love fries, for example, get a small amount and have a few while they’re hot and crispy but once you begin munching mindlessly, stop.

Schedule times you’ll have the thing you love.

I’m not going to have margs on a random Tuesday because it makes them less special, plus I wouldn’t feel great for my workout Wednesday. So if you love cookies, plan a date to take your family to a fancy gourmet bakery on a Sunday and get a really great one.

Make it work with your goals.

If you know you need to be in a caloric deficit to lose fat, make room for the wine in your calories. If you know you need to ensure that your blood sugar is balanced, perhaps you should enjoy those fries on the side with a salad and chicken. Or if you’re concerned about your digestion and know you’ve been sensitive to gluten, perhaps get a gluten free pizza crust. You still need to prioritize your needs, not JUST your wants.

But look, life isn’t all margs, pizza, win and cookies. You still have to have discipline. You still need to workout most days (yes, even the day after the margs), drink a bunch of water, sleep 8 hours a night and eat mostly protein and vegetables. This is how you feel good and look good. Without self discipline you wouldn’t be happy, so don’t do that.

But drink the marg, eat the cookies, life is short. But do it after the workout, between the hydration and then come home and have a salad.
